Our vision, from the outset, was to develop a service which would create a pathway from hospitalisation to independent living for individuals living with complex mental health needs that would see them requiring lifelong support.
We never set out to be revolutionary, but our ambition to deliver these services within the community and help people to realise that a life outside of hospital was not just possible but achievable was, at the charity’s inception in the 1980s, an untested concept – making Blyth Star somewhat of a ’pioneer’ for community-based social care.
In the years that have followed, we have continued to develop our services in line with our vision to help hundreds if not thousands of people with diagnoses of mental ill health and/or learning disabilities to develop or regain the skills and confidence they need to live safely and successfully in their local communities.
